SIL challenge week 4

A last minute submission to the Scrap-It-Lah challenge...

It's week 4 of their seven-week blog hop and this is my take:

Life has its ups and downs, and today, I'm scrapping a fearful moment for Joey. I started out with gray cardstock to coordinate with the granites in the photos. But it was too cool for my liking. So it was inked,  misted, sprayed and generally altered to it's current state.

The birdcage die cut is chipboard which have been painted with acrylic, then smeared with alcohol ink, as has the bird. It did not turn out dark enough, so I used black solvent ink to darken the edges.

The bird is peeking out of the cage, akin to tasting a new freedom. And it can sometimes be quite scary out there...

The button has also been coloured with alcohol ink to coordinate with the whole layout.

pink, cream and brown

Good things come in threes, so I'm going to make layered flowers for the third time this week. And maybe even be third time lucky! =)))

They are sparkly brown today, and again used as a focal image.

The colours are inspired by the challenge over at Secret Crafter, and the design is based on the sketch taken from Sew Many Cards. I'm also playing along with Cute Card Thursday (no text),  Stamp Something (recipe - flowers, buttons, sparkle), Simon Says Stamp (anything goes) and Crafts and Me (vintage/distressed).

seven today

Still scrapping old photos... =)

This time, I'm using a sketch from Scraptivations. This was the first challenge, and I thought it would be great for these shots. Cody insisted on having his cake photo on the front, so I've included it as a flower centre over the die cut bloom.

This layout picture has come out a bit insipid. It's actually a lot yellower than this. I've got to learn to take better pictures...

I'm also playing along with the challenge over at Scrappin Studio. I'm inspired by the yellow and bright colours of the kimono. It is so cheerful and anyway, I just love yellow! I've got two wraps; one to tie up the whole layout, and another as a closure element.

There are more photos and journaling hidden under the flap.

pink and sweet

That's right - pink and sweet! Not really my style, but when I saw this challenge over at Crafts & Me, I immediately thought of the lovely Pink Petticoat papers I have. This card is based on a sketch from Allsorts Challenge blog.

Instead of a stamped image, I'm using a layered flower as the focal image.

This flower is die cut (Tim Holtz's tattered flowers) from handmade layered paper which I made years ago. I used three layers, and gave it some sparkle with glimmer mist.

This card is also busy playing over at Ladybug Crafts TLT Challenge (Anything Goes) , A Spoonfull of Sugar (Let's Celebrate), ABC Challenge (S is for Sparkle) and Simon Says Stamp Challenge (Emboss It!).

fairy card

This flower fairy stamp just arrived recently, so I'm having some fun with it. I used art paper for this and got a different effect with distress inks. It bleeds around the stamped lines. I especially like the effect on the wings, which I've also highlighted with a bit of sparkle.

The image is rather large, so I had a go at making an easel card.

This card is being entered in the following challenges:
Sketch Saturday - week #151, sketch rotated clockwise
Let's Ink It Up -  challenge #13, show us your stitching
Cupcake Craft Challenges - cupcake 138, lots of layers (on the ribbon border)
Secret Crafter - Challenge #130, stitching

altered door hanger

Another simple fare today...

I'm playing along with the third challenge over at Scrap-It-Lah. Nothing outstanding, just trying out this and that. I adhered batik print fabric on cs, then fussy-cut and layered over Kate Knight paper.

The largest flower is also fabric adhered to chip board. The chipboard letters are painted with acrylic paint, then topped with alcohol ink. This gave them a metallic look, which I then highlighted with stickles.

Table-thumping Funny

My little baby is such a sunny fella that I had to scrap some of these moments. I found this sketch to play with at Scrappin Studio.

This is just a simple layout but I wanted to scrap these photos quickly. I just love the candid one of him thumping his baby chair in joy. It so personifies who he is. =))

altered file

Another new experience ... an altered file. I'm playing along with the challenge over at Scrap-it-Lah. I was just browsing the latest challenge when I saw this

on the floor. It was originally an L file, but the bottom has split. so it's just an open folder.

This gave thought that since it's not perfect anymore, and it is an altered challenge, I'm going to make this an upcycle project.

The background for the front and back are packing material (for cushioning) from a parcel I received recently. I scrunched it up then inked and misted, followed by a round under the iron. The corrugated material is also saved from some building works. I think it was used to cushion kitchen cabinet doors. It is spiffed up with a rough application of gold paint. I inked the edges of some paper doily, then pleated it as a fringe. I have to say I like the effect and will probably use it again elsewhere. Most of the die-cuts are cut from cereal and biscuit boxes. They are either inked or misted.

The "pearls" are applied freehand with Viva Decor pearl pens. And I mean really freehand. No pre-markings, so some parts look a tad awkward, and some imperfections but that's okay. The main title is foam, coated with glossy accent. I saw that at Papier, so gotta try it! =)

The inside is plain, as it will be used by my daughter to keep her school papers. The base is upcycled from a roll of cotton wool. The pearls are again, drawn freehand

This was fun, so thanks for this challenge.

the A list

Another scrapbook page done! =)

This time, I used a sketch over at sketchy thursdays. Sketches are such a lot of fun.

I'm also playing along with scraptivations for this layout. Not a fan of green, but inspired by the colour combo. And a chance to use up some of my stash from the lemon sorbet collection.

one sketch, two layouts

I have several photos I wanted to scrap, but somehow, just could not get a layout that worked. Then I came across Sassy Lil' Sketches.

What a relief to finally have these photos paged! They are already over a year old. Well, actually all my photos are ancient, seeing I only started scrapbooking recently.

Anyway, I must have had some kind of scrappers' block, so I'm glad I came across this sketch.

I used the same sketch again in another layout for Scrap-It-Lah. They're having a blog hop challenge, and this is the first one. It's a birthday theme, and with four kids, birthdays come  by very often... =)

I tried out my new glimmer mist, and I must say I like it! Used it on the letter tags and they look great.

Can you just foresee more colours in future stashing? =)))
